Thigh High Boots

Esther:
I am on a mission to find thigh high boots (also called over-the-knee boots which admittedly sounds more tasteful and less stripper-ish than "thigh high").

As a mom, I don't really have much time to put together perfect ensembles every day, so typically every Fall, I simplify my cool weather wardrobe down to an easy equation.

Tights+ Knit Dress
Jeans+Funky Top

Not terribly creative, but if you have a pair of tights in every color and dresses in every color, you can almost close your eyes, reach into your closet and wear whatever you pull out with very little broohaha. Same with the jeans and blouses. Problem is, I'm sick to death of tights and dresses, and am looking to conquer new territory this year. I was watching the fall runways for inspiration and was struck by gray over-the-knee boots. Genius I'm telling you.

It's like they're tights only better. Like cowboy space boots (I stole that from Bethany).

You can wear them with tights.

You can wear them with jeans

And skirts...

With cozy clothes...
Or a t-shirt and blazer.

You can even get some that scrunch down or pull up so you can wear them both ways.

Or you can pretend you're Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada.

I have no idea when one is too old for such indulgently outrageous looks, but I will embrace the fabulousness anyway.
2 sprinkles of fairy dust:

Now I'm going to have the Alfred Noyes/Loreena McKennitt song stuck in my head all day...

(He'd a French cocked hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin,
He'd a coat of the claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin.
They fitted with never a wrinkle. His boots were up to the thigh.
And he rode with a jeweled twinkle,
His pistol butts a-twinkle,
His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.)
